100,000 square meters of sky garden will be capital

The capital’s airspace is about to build the largest "green space" currently. The author recently learned from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Landscaping that the 3,000-square-meter roof greening project of the Beijing International Hotel is about to start. After the project is completed, it will become the largest air garden in the city.

This year we will build another 100,000 square meters of Hanging Gardens.

Yang Zhihua, director of the Greenland Management Office of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscaping and Environment, said that this year Beijing will eliminate 100,000 square meters of "desert in the air." Last year, the Beijing Municipal Government invested 20 million yuan to implement roof greening with a total area of about 130,000 square meters on the roofs of more than 80 buildings in the eight districts of Beijing. This year, it will continue to green 100,000 square meters. This year, garden-style roofs will be the main greenery, which means that pavilions and bridges can also be seen in the air. The newly added rooftop greening in Beijing will be implemented within a radius of 1 kilometer around the Olympic venues, 100 meters on both sides of Chang'an Avenue and its extension lines, and 100 meters on both sides of the central and north central axis.
According to Yang Zhihua, in mid-July, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscaping held a symposium on roof greening. Experts at the meeting believe that roof greening should be a useful supplement to urban afforestation in Beijing in terms of controlling dust pollution and alleviating heat island effects. Nowadays, urban land resources are in short supply. To increase urban green coverage, improve the ecological and landscape environment, and run a good green Olympics, only green roofs can be developed.

Enterprises will do roof greening government will have subsidies

Unlike last year, which was entirely funded by the government, this year's roof greening will be financed by enterprises, but the government will provide technical guidance and financial support.
"All government funding has both advantages and disadvantages. Because of certain mandatory nature, many owners are unwilling to cooperate and have negative resistance. We have to spend a lot of time to do our jobs." Yang Zhihua said that this year's policy is voluntary registration by owners. The government gives some compensation. “The owner’s application for the subsidy must be checked and accepted. After acceptance, the subsidy will be based on the standard of 50 to 100 yuan per square meter of green roof.” However, Yang Zhihua emphasized that there are preconditions for obtaining government subsidies. First of all, the percentage of green land ratios for corporate construction projects is up to the standard, and green roofs cannot be used to make up for them. For example, the rate of green space in newly built residential areas shall not be less than 30%, and the public green space shall be constructed according to the standard of two square meters per capita of the residential population; the old buildings in urban areas shall be converted into pieces, and the rate of green space shall not be lower than 20%. In addition, the quality of green space is also a part of acceptance. "You can't simply plant a large lawn. According to the requirements, it should be done in multiple areas. Qiao, irrigation, and grass have proportions."

All green roofs in Beijing can be lowered by 5°C~10°C in summer

In 2004, Beijing Garden Research Institute calculated that there were 69 million square meters of bald roofs in Beijing's Fourth Ring, which required roof greening through satellite, aerial photography, and manual measurement. “It is estimated that in the hot summer of Beijing, the temperature of the top floor of the building under direct sunlight can reach 70° C. If the roof is greened, the temperature of the grass root is only 40° C., the soil temperature under the grass root is lower, and the household on the top floor of the building is daily. It can save at least one kWh, said Wang Xianmin, secretary general of the Beijing Roof Greening Association. According to him, experts have done calculations. If all exposed roofs in Beijing can be roofed, then Beijing's summer temperature will drop by 5°C to 10°C. At the same time, there are also significant improvements in humidity, air quality, etc. Save energy.
