Drought-resistance: Competing for farmer's fat

Renqiu is located in the middle of the North China Plain. It is more than 150 kilometers north of Beijing and more than 130 kilometers away from Tianjin. Like most county-level cities in the country, Renqiu is doing everything he can to speed up his industrialization process. Every year when I go home, there will be some farmland change factories and farmers will become citizens. Although growing food is no longer the main source of income for many farmers, land is still directly related to the lives of many people.

The rare dry weather makes this spring festival particularly dry, but not cold. The ice in the river has already developed, and a thin layer of melted ice water has appeared in the roots of the dry reeds. The farmer said that "the seven nine rivers are open, eighty-nine geese are coming, ninety-nine plus one nine, and the cattle are all over the place." After seven or ninety-one, some impatient farmers have gone to the ground to check the grievances. "I didn't go through the snow in the winter. The time of the drought was too long. You didn't see that there was a lot of dust in the village this year. The soil in the ground was all scraped up." The villager Wang Fu said while kicking The dirt in the ground. Every foot goes down, and a gray dust is raised. In the past two weeks, the program that Wang Fu must watch every night is the weather forecast. "Look once, no rain, look again, or no rain, follow this way, how expensive is this year's wheat?"

Wang Fu recalled that more than a decade ago, most of the farmland in the village was “watering land”: the land that relies on the river can be pumped directly with a water pump, and the ground without the river can pump groundwater through the well. Nowadays, there are fewer and fewer "watering fields", and most of them have become "drylands" where only one season of corn can be planted. "The news said that it is necessary to overhaul the water conservancy. I think it is quite right. Now there are only six or seven hundred kilograms of wheat per mu, which is not as good as the first few years."

The good news is that from the beginning of last winter, Baiyangdian once again introduced the Yellow River water “replenishment”, which will last until March of this year. Different from previous years, after the Yellow River water flows into the territory of Renqiu City, it will divert water from the east and west lines. The western line follows the water diversion route of previous years, passing through Xiaobai River to Renwengan Canal, and entering Baiyangdian from Liuzhuang Gate, which is mainly used for ecological water supply in Baiyangdian. The east line along the Guyang River, from Renhe City, Beihan Township, Renqiu City, was introduced to Renqiu City, which is mainly used for agricultural drought-resistant irrigation in this spring.
It is a hundred-year plan to build water conservancy, and it is imperative to ease the current drought.

Although it is temporarily impossible to water, organic fertilizer has become a hot commodity. In recent days, animal fertilizers such as chicken manure and pig manure in chicken farms and pig farms have suddenly become "tight goods." Li Bao, a large sheep-raising household, recently received several calls, all of which were asked by the villagers if he had a phone call for sheep dung. "This year is too dry, and can be kept with sheep manure," Li said. In fact, many farmers realize that the land use of common farmyard manure is significantly better than that of chemical fertilizers, and with the large-scale use of chemical fertilizers, the effect of increasing production has been much worse than before. Thus, in this dry winter, the farmyard manure began to heat up.

Some people have tried to alleviate the drought in the existing land, and some people have turned their eyes to those areas that are not dry. Last month, when the villager Wang Sheng was idle, he often rode along the canal: instead of looking at the scenery, he looked at the wasteland with the grass on both sides of the canal. Although these wasteland are overgrown, it is very troublesome to open up, but because of the proximity to the canal, there is less worry about drought. Some wasteland has planted a large number of fast-growing poplars, which are obviously better than other plots.
