ALD passivation process perchloroethylene battery conversion efficiency up to 19.6%

The Microelectronics Research Center has demonstrated that RENA and SoLayTec have 156mmx156mm perchloroethylene monocrystalline silicon solar cells with atomic layer deposition (ALD) passivation technology, and the cell conversion efficiency is as high as 19.6% in the IMEC solar cell test line.

"These results show that the three-dimensional ALD-Al2O3 can provide excellent passivation with no frontside parasitic deposition." Dr. Oder Rothschild, senior scientist, pointed out that he is the expert responsible for the development of the Al2O3 passivation technology in the IMEC photovoltaic sector. “Excellent level of passivation technology can increase the efficiency. It is expected that this technology will further improve the performance of solar cells in the near future. Our goal is to increase the conversion efficiency of the battery to 20% in the next few months. ”

“This excellent solar cell experimental result shows that RENA polishing technology is very mature. This technology includes the back-side polishing and InOxSide junction isolation polishing technology, and proposes the next-generation battery concept perchloroethylene battery.” Franke, RENA's Solar Product Manager Rahaye added.

Roger Görtzen, co-founder and marketing manager and sales of SoLayTec, said: "Excellent backside passivation results indicate the nature of SoLayTec's atomic layer deposition process for alumina. The experimental process scaled up to volume production, plus the inexpensive three Methyl aluminum will be the lowest cost. This is the first choice for high efficiency and thin p-type perchloroethylene silicon solar cells."
