Japanese researchers have recently developed an efficient light-absorbing material, whose absorption rate of visible light and infrared light exceeds 99%, and the new material will be expected to be used in the field of imaging equipment. The light-absorbing material means that the light shines on the material, and there is no transmission outside the illumination, nor does it produce a mapping and a large flare. After absorbing the light, the material reflects less light.

To greatly improve the material's light absorption rate and durability, it is necessary to perform nano-scale micro-processing on the surface of the material to form a conical cavity structure, and the related technical challenges are huge.

The research team led by the Japan Institute of Industrial Technology first irradiated the resin material with the ion beam emitted by the accelerator to make some small holes, and then through chemical treatment to expand the hole into a conical shape, so that the resin material has a precise surface structure, and finally Using this resin material as a mold and filling with black silicone rubber mixed with carbon, a highly efficient light-absorbing "dark" material is made. The absorption rate of the new material for visible light and infrared light exceeds 99.5% and 99.9%, respectively.

The researchers claim that this material is durable and is expected to be used in devices that are extremely sensitive to light absorption, such as telescopes and cameras. Related papers have been published in the Journal of Materials Chemistry by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
