Granite evaluation method

When it comes to evaluating the quality of finished stone, there are several key factors to consider. These four aspects can help you determine whether a stone is of high quality or not.

First, take a close look at the surface structure of the stone with your naked eye. A good quality stone typically has a uniform and fine-grained texture, giving it a smooth and elegant appearance. On the other hand, stones with coarse grains or uneven structures tend to look less appealing and may have inconsistent mechanical properties. Additionally, natural stones often develop small veins or micro-cracks due to geological processes, which can weaken the stone and make it more prone to cracking. It's important to avoid such stones. Also, if the edges are chipped or irregular, it can greatly affect the overall aesthetic, especially when selecting for visible areas.

The second factor to consider is the size of the granite used for decoration. Choosing the right dimensions is crucial because improper sizes can lead to issues during installation, such as misalignment or distortion in patterns and lines, which can negatively impact the final decorative effect.

The third method involves listening to the sound the stone makes when tapped. A high-quality stone will produce a clear, crisp sound due to its dense internal structure and lack of hidden cracks. However, if the stone sounds dull or hollow, it might indicate the presence of micro-cracks or weak spots caused by weathering, which can compromise its durability.

Lastly, a simple test can be performed to assess the stone’s density. By placing a small drop of ink on the backside of the stone, you can observe how it reacts. If the ink spreads quickly or seeps into the surface, it suggests that the stone has loose particles or internal cracks, meaning it's of lower quality. If the ink remains concentrated and doesn’t spread, the stone is likely dense and well-structured, making it a better choice.

When selecting finished stone panels, keep in mind that natural stones vary in texture and quality depending on their source and processing. Most stones are graded based on these characteristics. For example, granite usually doesn't have colored stripes but may have scattered color spots or solid colors. The finer the mineral grains, the higher the quality tends to be. Always inspect the stone carefully before making a decision to ensure it meets your expectations in both appearance and performance.
