The xenon lamp operates within a UV-cut, UV-resistant quartz glass tube that contains a mixture of chemical gases, primarily xenon and iodide. This gas mixture is enclosed in a sealed chamber and connected to a booster, also known as a ballast. When the system is activated, a 12-volt DC power source is rapidly stepped up to an extremely high voltage of 23,000 volts. This intense voltage excites the electrons in the helium gas inside the quartz tube, causing them to jump to higher energy levels and emit light between the two electrodes. This process is known as gas discharge. The resulting light is a bright, white arc that closely resembles natural sunlight, with a significantly higher color temperature compared to traditional lighting sources. Compared to standard halogen bulbs, this HID (High-Intensity Discharge) lamp consumes only 3.5A of current, produces three times the brightness, and has a lifespan that is approximately ten times longer. Its efficiency and longevity make it a popular choice for applications requiring high-quality, long-lasting illumination.
