Abstract Scientists have recently uncovered a groundbreaking application for boron nitride, often referred to as "white graphene," which shows great potential in purifying contaminated water. This material is considered a next-generation solution with wide-ranging implications for environmental remediation. The findings were published in the prestigious journal *Nature Communications*, highlighting the unique atomic structure of boron nitride. The atoms arrange themselves into interconnected, fence-like formations that are highly effective at capturing organic pollutants such as oils, chemicals, and other harmful substances. Unlike many existing nanomaterials, this new material offers a significant advantage: it is easy to clean and can be reused multiple times without losing its efficiency. Research has demonstrated that boron nitride outperforms traditional materials and even many nanomaterials in terms of both performance and scalability. This discovery was led by a collaborative effort between the Institute for Advanced Materials at Deakin University in Australia and the Pierre and Marie Curie University in France. With its promising properties, boron nitride could play a key role in developing sustainable and cost-effective water purification systems in the future.
