Granite Silicon Spot:
These spots appear as agglomerated or point-like stains on the stone surface, often accompanied by brushing marks. They tend to be thick in color, bright, and when water droplets land on them, they remain concentrated rather than spreading out. This is typically caused by oxidation of a water-repellent agent in certain areas of the stone. Silicone spots are highly water-repellent, making them more challenging to clean compared to other types of stains. To treat them effectively, KVD-05 can be applied and left to penetrate for 24 hours. This allows the solution to deeply infiltrate the stone and break down the stain. If ventilation is good, heating the area while applying moisture can also speed up the cleaning process.
Granite Water Spot:
Water spots on granite often originate from cement contaminants that spread from cracks or joints across the stone surface. These stains start as dry, dull patches and become wet and more visible with changes in weather. When water drips onto the affected area, it tends to darken the surface and intensify the stain. This happens because the cement minerals at the base of the stone dissolve due to water exposure, leading to darkening of the surface. To remove these stains, KVD-06 can be used with a wet dressing method for 12 hours. For better results, allowing the solution to sit longer can improve effectiveness.
Stone Degreaser:
These stains are usually caused by mineral oil, animal fat, or vegetable oil that has dripped onto the stone surface, forming clusters or spots. The color of these stains is often darker and more noticeable compared to silicone spots, which lack the same level of shine. These oily stains may stick to paper or feel greasy to the touch. They can be effectively removed using KVD-08. In cases where the stain is mixed with soot from vehicle emissions, a silicone spot cleaner may work better, especially when applied with a wet method.
Marble and Sandstone Water Spot / Yellow Spot:
This type of stain occurs on marble and sandstone slabs when cement material adheres to the bottom of the stone and spreads across the surface, creating water stains, black discoloration, and yellowish alkali salt stains. These can be treated using the KVD-08 wet dressing method or a warm rubbing technique. Note: This method is not recommended for granite or ceramic tiles.
Granite Macula and Rust Stains:
Rust spots and other discolorations on granite can be effectively removed using KVD-09.
Marble Yellow Spots and Rust Stains:
For marble, KVD-11 can be used in a heating and wet coating method to accelerate the cleaning process. Marble is primarily composed of calcium carbonate, making it vulnerable to chemical damage. As a result, rust removers for marble are generally milder and may have limitations. Additionally, marble has a higher density than granite, and after polishing, it can be more difficult for cleaning agents to penetrate. Using a heating and wetting method helps open up the stone’s pores, allowing the rust stains to loosen and react more effectively with the cleaning solution. This makes the restoration process faster and more efficient. However, some marble surfaces may show minor effects from the cleaning agents, so it's important to consider this before proceeding. If needed, polishing can be done after cleaning to restore the stone’s original appearance.
