Korea Electronics Technology Research Institute has found the world's most flexible ultra-thin OLED electrode

Researchers at the Korea Electronics Technology Research Institute (KETI) have announced the world's most flexible ultra-thin OLED electrode material because it can be folded to a smaller extent than a strand of hair (0.1mm). Obviously, flexible OLED technology displays based on this material can make mobile products more ergonomic. In the not-too-distant future, when we see something weirder than Samsung’s Galaxy Edge and LG’s G Flex, don’t be too surprised.

The new technology incorporates a colorless polyimide nanosilver wire on the OLED panel instead of Indium tin oxide because the latter can easily crack when bent.

Previously, nanosilver wires were not considered by OLED panel manufacturers because of their rough surface. However, by embedding the wires in the polymer substrate and plasma irradiation to make the surface smooth, this problem has been solved.

The last record of flexible OLED curve radius is 5mm, so this improvement is particularly dazzling. KETI said: "With this OLED motor material, smart phones can be completely curled or folded like paper."

The researchers were formally tested after rigorous testing and the material was able to withstand 100,000 folds before it broke. It is enough for intelligent machine user to use for two consecutive years when converted to 100 times a day.

At present, the industry's standard for foldable materials is “light transmittance of 85%” and the impedance is lower than 15 ohms, but the transmittance of the new OLED material directly exceeds 90% and the impedance is also as low as 8 ohm/sq.

KETI expects that the breakthrough first commercial folding smart machine is expected to meet with you within 2 years. Although we can't believe what it looks like and how it works, it's really exciting.
