Geneva unveils second solar-powered aircraft (web screenshot)
On April 9, Mexico's "Aztec News" reported that Switzerland has launched its second solar-powered aircraft in Geneva. Developed by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, this new plane is capable of storing enough energy to sustain flight for five consecutive days. This marks a significant step forward in renewable aviation technology. In 2009, Switzerland introduced its first solar-powered aircraft, and over the past five years, it has set eight world records in the field of solar flight.
The aircraft measures 72 meters in length and weighs 2,300 kilograms. It can reach a top speed of 90 kilometers per hour. Inside the plane, 17,248 solar panels are installed, allowing it to collect and store sufficient energy to operate even during nighttime or in cloudy conditions. According to reports from Geneva, the new aircraft is scheduled to take off from the Persian Gulf in March next year, aiming to complete a round-the-world journey lasting five days and five nights.
