Geneva unveils its second solar-powered aircraft (web screenshot)
According to a report from Mexico's "Aztec News" website on April 9, Switzerland has launched its second solar-powered aircraft in Geneva. Developed by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, this new plane is designed to store enough energy to sustain flight for up to five consecutive days. This follows the country’s first solar-powered aircraft, which was introduced in 2009 and has since set eight world records over the past five years.
The aircraft measures 72 meters in length and weighs 2,300 kilograms. It can reach a top speed of 90 kilometers per hour. Inside, it is equipped with 17,248 solar panels, which are sufficient to power the plane even when flying through clouds. The city of Geneva announced that the new solar-powered aircraft will take off from the Persian Gulf in March next year, embarking on a journey around the world that will last five days and five nights.
