Zhong Ping, Secretary-General of the Changchun Consumers Association, stated that according to the "Detailed Rules for the Safe Use of Household Appliances," the safe usage period for electric water heaters is eight years. These rules also require manufacturers to clearly state the safe use period, which starts from the date of purchase. If a safety issue arises during this period due to normal use, the manufacturer is fully responsible.
Improper installation by consumers can lead to serious risks. A recent case involved Ms. Huang from Wansheng Economic Development Zone, whose gas water heater caught fire twice. After the second incident, the entire unit was destroyed. Upon investigation, it was found that her husband had installed the water heater himself, causing a gas leak that led to the fire. The repair shop denied responsibility.
Consumers must be cautious when choosing and installing water heaters. It's important to consider the product’s lifespan and always rely on professional installers and technicians. Attempting DIY installations or repairs can result in damage or even dangerous situations. Safety should never be compromised for convenience.
