These results suggest that plasticizers possess anti-androgenic properties, disrupting the endocrine system and impairing fertility. Experts believe that these findings may have implications for human health, as long-term exposure to plasticizers could have more severe effects on males than females. One common type of plasticizer, DEHP (di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate), is classified as an environmental hormone. While its exact toxicity to humans remains unclear, it has been detected in numerous food products and is known to persist in the body for extended periods. Prolonged exposure may lead to weakened immunity, decreased energy levels, and reduced fertility. DEHP mimics natural hormones in the body, potentially damaging male reproductive health and accelerating the onset of puberty in girls. Long-term or high-dose exposure has been linked to liver cancer in animal studies. Given that children are still developing their hormonal and reproductive systems, the risks associated with DEHP exposure are even greater for them. Some potential effects include gender confusion in children, such as underdeveloped genitalia or delayed sexual characteristics. Although there is no conclusive evidence that DEHP causes cancer in humans, it has been shown to induce cancer in laboratory animals. Moreover, phthalates can interfere with hormone production in fetuses and infants, leading to hormonal imbalances and possibly triggering early puberty in children. As awareness of these dangers grows, efforts to reduce exposure to plasticizers are becoming increasingly important for public health.
